Dr Sleep's Tip #5: Observe the 20 Minute Rule

Fretting about not being able to sleep can lead to further sleep problems. Our very own Dr. Sleep, Dr. Simon Durrant, has some great advice for you...

If you have been lying awake for 20 minutes, don't just lie there and worry, get up and do some non-strenuous activity for a short while and then try again. Just make sure you avoid bright lights as they convince your brain you should still be awake.

Invest in a low light by your bed and read for a little bit, get up and make a cup of chamomile tea or simply lie in bed and listen to some classical music. Try to avoid the temptation to turn on the TV as this will just wake you up more.
