Mark Baldry wins Bronze at the WAKO World Championships

From the 22nd to the 29th of November Mark Baldry travelled to Dublin, Ireland for the WAKO Kickboxing World Championships representing Team Great Britain.

Fogarty are proud to sponsor Mark Baldry, from the Boston Kickboxing Club of Evolution Martial Arts, who has been in a tough training camp leading up to the world championships so he could perform at his very best.

Mark fought in the Men's Veteran -94kg Light Continuous after being selected by the Great Britain team back in July after being the best of his weight category in the country and winning the WAKO National Great Britain Championships in February.

At the WAKO Senior World Championship 2015 there was 779 competitors (one per country in each category) coming from 60 different countries around the world including South Korea, Chile, Australia, South Africa, Russia, Italy and many other countries. This competition was the best of the best fighting for the most prestigious title in kickboxing.

On the Sunday Mark travelled to the City West Hotel and Conference Centre Venue with the Great Britain Team where he arrived, took his pre-fight medical check before weighing into his category at a strong 91.4kg.

On the Sunday Mark participated in the WAKO Team GB squad training session where the team had a last session to ensure they were at their very best.

On the Tuesday there was the opening ceremony before the elimination rounds begun and continued on the Wednesday. Mark didn't compete in the elimination rounds after receiving a bi to the quarter finals where he was to fight an American fighter from the USA.

The Thursday morning was Mark's turn to shine where he fought the American athlete called Kelly Cannon. The fight was very tough but Mark came out on top with a unanimous decision to Mark. Putting him through to the semi-finals against a top class fighting from Hungary.

On Thursday evening Baldry fought Istvan Toth the reigning World Champion who won one of his first World titles in 1990! Mark knew it would be a hard fight but had a strong game plan that he carried out very well.

After some top class fighting Mark lost out narrowly on a 2-1 decision to Toth. Putting Mark of Boston Evolution Martial Arts into third position in the WAKO world championships. This is a great achievement for Mark and all at Evolution Martial Arts in Boston. Congratulations Mark! Mark would like to thank all of the coaches at Evolution especially Coach Linda Baxter for all of the hard work in which she puts into the students and athletes.

Mark would also like to thank all of his sponsors Fogarty Filled Product Ltd in making him able to compete at the WAKO World Championships. Linda Baxter runs the not for profit club down Fishtoft Road in Boston. If you would like to take up kickboxing please like our Facebook page or call into the gym.
